High-end wealth management firm Aspiriant got a facelift this week with the launch of a new website that stands apart from the density and verbosity more typical of the advisory website genre.
Most striking, perhaps, is not what is present on the site but rather what is missing.
“We weren’t trying to provide too much information," Aspiriant’s director of business development Cammie Doder told ThinkAdvisor in a phone interview from her San Francisco office. "We love overdelivering to clients, and we had to pull back.”
Doder, who oversaw the site’s rollout — a process that started more than a year ago with what she calls a “brand audit” — says that restraint meant dispensing with the overly analytical approach that is a staple of financial advisor websites.
“What really gives our clients comfort is tying the analytics with the emotional side of wealth management,” she says.
The seven-city elite firm, whose average client has $8 million under management, sought to communicate that with a generous sprinkling of illustrations — such as the tender embrace of a woman and her dog that is meant to convey a client experience whose thoughtfulness and meticulousness stems from an overarching quality of caring.

While CalAmp has good growth prospects, the company plays in a sector where size can be a potent factor. Nokia Corp.’s (NYSE: NOK) NSN group, Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC), Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) and Alcatel-Lucent S.A. (NYSE: ALU) are the competition, and it is not far-fetched to see CalAmp as a potential acquisition at some point.

Shares of Nokia (NYSE: NOK ) and BlackBerry went on to more than double off of last year's lows. The market sensed that the time was ripe for Nokia's Lumia smartphones, and BlackBerry's BB 10 handsets, to carve out sustainable niches in a market that seemed to be fragmenting.

The company has paid a cash dividend to shareholders every year since 1954 and has increased its dividend payments for 54 consecutive years. Dividend Income vs. MMA: Why would you assume the equity risk and invest in a dividend stock if you could earn a better return in a much less risky money market account (MMA) or Treasury bond? I suppose I could lay out the same sorts of iffy arguments for stocks Ie bought. Omnicom (OMC) and IMS Health were bought during a stock market panic. And a panic can explain anything. Advertising was going to be weak for a couple years in a global recession. People thought this wasn the time to buy an advertising company. IMS Health was a healthcare company while healthcare reform was being discussed. Some Senators brought up things they didn like about IMS Health in regards to patient privacy. And one state actually passed legislation that coulde harmed IMS Health. But none of this seemed all that material to the stock. And it kind of hard to see how people would actually believe it was material to the company business. It not like they were debating the fees IMS Health could charge (the way credit card companies, banks, etc., were being discussed).

Finally, advertising and marketing services company Omnicom Group (NYSE: OMC ) added 3.4% despite no company-specific news today. However, earlier in the week, Omnicom announcement that it was keeping its dividend steady at $0.40 in the upcoming quarter certainly invigorated shareholders, who are digging Omnicom's 2.5% yield. Personally, I can't help but be a little skeptical of ad and marketing consultants in a slow-growing global environment, but shareholders are definitely enjoying a solid end to the week.
